Start with the cheapest fixes

Why is there water in my basement after rain?
Usually because too much water collects against the foundation: downspouts emptying next to the house, soil sloping toward it, or saturated ground pushing water through cracks and the floor-wall joint. Fixing the outside drainage is the cheapest first step.
